Populismus in der Asylpolitik: Herausforderungen und Gegenstrategien

Thursday, 23.10.2025, 19.00 Uhr bis 21:00 Uhr Veranstalter: Afro-Asiatisches Institut Salzburg weitere Veranstalter: Friedensbüro Salzburgweitere Veranstalter: Plattform für Menschenrechte

In current world affairs, populist politicians are increasingly finding an audience - not least due to the dynamics of social media, whose algorithms particularly amplify polarizing content.

Right-wing populist narratives are gaining influence, especially in asylum and migration policy, and are also pushing moderate parties to use populist rhetoric. But such debates do not contribute to constructive solutions. Instead of promoting social cohesion, they divide and intensify existing conflicts. How can this be counteracted? In this discussion event, we will explore the following questions together: What impact does populism have on social coexistence? How can those affected, civil society initiatives, and committed citizens rise up against populist discourse? And what role can nuanced narratives, solidarity, and democratic education play in this process?
