The bitter truth about cocoa farming

Friday, 05.12.2025, 18.30 Uhr bis 21:00 Uhr Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse 2, 5020 Salzburg, Österreich Veranstalter: Afro-Asiatisches Institut Salzburg weitere Veranstalter: Katholische Hochschulgemeinde Salzburgweitere Veranstalter: afrika.info

We invite you to a film screening at the Green Cinema, where we take a look behind the facade of the chocolate industry.

The documentary “Chocolate War” highlights the dramatic situation of child labor on cocoa plantations in West Africa—a problem that, even 20 years after it was first exposed, has still not been sustainably resolved. The film shows that cocoa processing companies still tolerate slave labor in their supply chains in order to maximize profits. Despite growing international initiatives and public attention, change has yet to materialize. Following the film screening, there will be room for discussion and reflection. How can we as consumers take responsibility and initiate change? Come by, watch the film, and let's talk together about the bitter price demanded by the “sweet” industry.
