Alerta Amazônia – when fabric speaks

Arpillera exhibition from Brazil

Tuesday, 25.11.2025, 10.00 Uhr bis Sunday, 21.12.2025 22:00 Uhr Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse 2, 5020 Salzburg, Österreich Veranstalter: Afro-Asiatisches Institut Salzburg

In November/December 2025, Salzburg will welcome the Brazilian organization Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens (MAB). MAB fights for people who lose their livelihoods due to dams – for land rights, compensation, and environmental protection.

A central means of expression for their resistance are arpilleras, textile artworks that originated in Chile. MAB uses this art form to highlight human rights violations and promote healing. Arpilleras tell of pain, hope, and the everyday lives of those affected – they give a voice to those who are often overlooked. The exhibition showcases these powerful works in Salzburg.

Exhibition: November 25 – December 21, 2025
Location: Afro-Asian Institute, Imaculada (ground floor)
In cooperation with: horizont3000, Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), SEI SO FREI Salzburg, Platform for Human Rights Salzburg, as part of the BMLUK-supported project “Climate Justice for the Amazon People”
