Walter Sauer presents his new book „Jenseits von Soliman. Afrikanische Migration und Communitybuilding in Österreich – eine Geschichte“.

The history of black people in Salzburg goes back at least 300 years - beginning with young slaves in the service of the Fürsterzbischof. Science, popular stories and the visual arts have been dealing with the nearby but so unfamiliar continent of Africa for much longer. In the age of colonialism and the slave trade, the initially positive clichés turned negative.

The people of African descent, who came to Salzburg, were and still are confronted with these clichés. Behind the criticism voiced around the #blacklivesmatter movement lies a desire to be taken seriously.

Walter Sauer presents his new book "Afrikanische Migration und Communitybuilding in Österreich - eine Geschichte".
